Creating the perfect title can be difficult and nerve-racking. Most marketing experts recommend keeping the title at three words or less, but I suggest no more than five words.
Your book title needs to pop, convey a hint at what your story is about, and if possible, somehow tie into the actual theme. Depending on your genre, here are a few suggestions on creating the perfect book title.
1) Song titles can give you quite a few great book title ideas. Find a band that fits your story's theme and browse the titles of their songs. And even the lyrics can be inspiring.
Science Fiction title ideas:
“Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden
“Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down
“A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay
Apocalyptic title ideas:
“Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons
“Till The World Ends” by Britney Spears
“Disturbia” by Rihanna
Romance title ideas:
“Forever & Always” by Taylor Swift
“Someone Like You” by Adele
“Hanging by a Moment” by Lifehouse
Horror title ideas:
“The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by The Charlie Daniels Band
“Dead and Bloated” by Stone Temple Pilots
“Heathens” by Twenty-One Pilots
2) Like watching TV? Do any of the shows you watch have a theme or storyline similar to your WIP? Browse the titles of each episode to come up with ideas.
Sci-Fi title ideas:
“Terra Firma” from Farscape
“Objects in Space” from Firefly
“Ripple Effect” from Stargate SG-1
Post-Apocalyptic title ideas:
“Human Trials” from The 100
“Last Day on Earth” from The Walking Dead
“Zombie Baby Daddy” from Z Nation
Romance title ideas:
“Lights, Camera, Relationship” from Sex and the City
“Fade Into You” from The Vampire Diaries
“Crazy, Cupid, Love” from Gossip Girl
Fantasy title ideas:
